I have heard about several home-based business like direct sell, multi-level marketing, or online customer service. I don't have much details about those because I don't have first hand experience with them. However, today I'm going to discuss about something I know very well and totally different from those that I mentioned. It is called "online advertising business".
What is Online Advertising Business?
The name might sound intimidating but it is so simple that everyone knows but did not pay attention. Do you know how Google is making billions of dollars every year? I will explain a little a bit for those of you who have no clue what Google does. Google provides free search engine service on the Internet. You can find online materials for any topics, just go to google.com and type your search keywords. Google provides free service to millions of users and at the same time they got to find a way to make money so they allow advertisers to place advertisements on their websites as you can see on the right hand side of the search results. Google makes a lot of money. Great! How is it related to "online advertising business". Google has a platform called "Adsense" that allow anyone who wants to help them promote their advertisement to get some of their income. There are a number of ways to do this but I will focus only 2 methods I know very well.

What is "Content Provider"? Have you ever heard of people talking about writing a blogs or online journals or online forums? Those people were writing some articles on the Website and might do online advertising business as a content provider. Basically there are some websites that provide an easy to use tool for common people to write about something and let them publish what they wrote on the Internet. In the process of creating an online publishing the site also provides a tool for you to add advertisement from Google on your page and if your users like the ads and click on the ads while they are reading your articles, Google will share some of their income to reward you for bringing a successful ads campaign to them. It sounds easy, right? Yes, you can write anything as long as you don't violate their policy but your business might not be successful as it should be. So, you should plan a little bit on what kind of useful messages that you would like to share with your audience. Here is one of the sites I know that provide a platform for content providers. Click here to open an account but don't do it just yet. Let's continue with the second one to have a complete picture.
2. Domain Name Parking
First of all, What is "Domain Name"? Domain is the name people type in the Web address. In my case my domain name is "www.AnswersForQuestions.com". Now what is "Domain Name Parking"? There are some companies that allow anyone who owns domain names but not using them at the moment to park domain names with them. By parking your domain names with them, you allow them to use your domain them to display advertisement and Google is one of the companies. For example, I own the domain name "dohomebusiness.com" and when someone types "dohomebusiness.com" in the search bar, Google will fill the content of the page with their advertisement that are related to 3 keywords "do" "home" "business". When users see advertises that interest them and they click on the advertise. Then, Google will keep track of how many clicks you have generated and reward you on that. It is as simple as that. The next question is that how do we start this business? The name "Domain Name Parking" says it all. We need to own some domain names. The problem is that some good domain names are already taken because I'm not sharing something new here. Some people have been making a living on this concept for years. Don't worry I will share some of my techniques in domain name selection.
How to choose good domain names?
If the domain names you're looking for are already taken, try the following :
1. Add hyphen '-' between words between words. For example, if you're looking for "comparepriceshopping.com" or "compareecommercesolutions.com", try "compare-price-shopping.com" and "compare-ecommerce-solutions.com". When someone search for "compare ecommerce solutions" or "compare prices shopping" the suggested domain should be matching with the search keywords as well.
2. Add 's' to some words. For example, "findtutorjob.com" "makeadwork.com" are not available. Try "findtutorjobs.com" and "makeadwords.com". If you notice, I also add action words, "find" and "make" to the domain names that are not available.
3. Try variation words for the similar meanings. For example, "post-realestate.com" is not available. Try "post-rental.com", "post-list.com", "post-buy.com", "post-sell.com". I even went further to try "post-anything.com" or "list-yours.com" I think you know what I mean.
4. Try adding extra words that make it sounds nice. For example, "adworks.com", "shoppingcart.com", "ecommerce.com" are not available. Try "adworksnow.com", "shoppingcartbravo.com", "ecommercebravo.com".
5. Think of how users will type in the search bar. For example "shoppinglowestprices.com" or "learnlanguagesathome.com".
6. Try variation versions of popular site. For example, everyone knows "eBay.com". Try "eEdBay.com" users will get the idea that this site is related to education and provide similar service from eBay. In fact that I plan to build something with this domain in the future so I have registered not only ".com" but "eEdBay.net" and "eEdBay.org " as well. The reason is that I want to build something related to education on ".com" site. I don't want someone else building a porn site on ".net" or ".org". No one will never want their children to go to eEdBay for that reason. Another good business reason is that let's say I could make this eEdBay.com to become a multimillion dollars site. I don't want my competitors to register ".net" or ".org" to steal my customers, right? I hope it make some senses to you.

7. Try combination of the above. From the example I used above, this one is a combination of '-' and adding an 's' . You can try "compare-prices-shopping.com".
8. If you really like the names but not available in ".com", then you can try ".net". It is not as popular as ".com" but if you're sure that you can make it shines. Microsoft is using it for "asp.net". I myself have tried "onlineeducation247.net" and "myetrade.net".
